Are You Still on Coinbase? ⏎ (Melody: “He Hideth My Soul”)
By Eric · Updated October 17, 2026
Satire and commentary: names and likenesses are used for parody, and nothing here is a statement of fact about real people. Sourced facts are in the sections below.
Verse 1 Hey you, are you still on Coinbase today? Left your seed there, just gave it away? Gave them your face and your fingerprint too? Oh my friend… what are you tryin’ to do?
Chorus Are you still sleepin’ on Coinbase at night? Trusting one server with all of your rights? One phishing email, your coins disappear… Why are you still holdin’ them near?
(Choral Interlude) Oh~ buy a Ledger! Oh~ grab a Trezor! Your assets, your keys— that’s ₿, forever!
Verse 2 “You know, it's just so convenient…” you say— But hackers are watching your balance all day. Customer support? Three days too late. By then your coins have met their fate.
(Chorus repeat) Are you still prayin’ to Coinbase’s gods? The app looks sleek but the risk is odd. Your keys, your node, your sovereign plan— Why trust a stranger’s server, man?
(Choral Interlude) Satoshi’s weepin’… You bought ₿ with no keepin’! A wallet’s salvation— Exchanges are temptation!
Verse 3 It’s time to move, go make your own vault. Even one seed is a faithful start. One step toward decentral truth— Your ₿ revival starts with proof!
Final Chorus (Mass Choir) Today I make my wallet with pride! On my own node I now reside! Coinbase, farewell, you've had your day— I choose self-custody today!
In plain words: what this means
The scripture is satire. Checked on October 18, 2026.
What checks out
The song is asking a real question: who controls the private keys? Coinbase says a Coinbase.com account is a hosted wallet and Coinbase maintains its private keys. It also says Coinbase Wallet is self-custody: the user maintains those keys (Coinbase: What does Coinbase do with my digital assets?). Same brand, different setup. The chorus paints with a very large brush.
Bitcoin.org explains the trade in plain terms: if a third party controls your keys, you rely on that party's security and honesty. Its wallet guide also describes offline wallets and backups, while warning that every wallet needs care (Bitcoin.org: Securing your wallet). Self-custody changes who holds the keys; it does not make phishing, lost backups, bad transfers, or broken devices disappear.
What needs a footnote
“Gave them your face and your fingerprint” is not supported by the sources we checked. The lyric does not establish what data any particular customer gave Coinbase. “One phishing email, your coins disappear” and “customer support? Three days too late” are dramatic, unverified claims, not a sourced incident report. The song also treats Coinbase as one kind of wallet, though Coinbase's own help page distinguishes its hosted exchange account from its separate self-custody wallet.
The chorus says to buy a hardware wallet and move assets. That is a lyric, not personal financial advice. Moving crypto can be irreversible, and holding one's own keys adds backup and security chores. This explainer is not recommending a product or a transfer.
