Mt. Gox Moved Its Repayment Deadline Again. Now It Is 2027.
Part of the guide: Money, law and markets

Imagine a pizza shop that closed in 2014 and still owes some customers their pizzas. Every year the owner says, "Come back next October." This is that story, and the newest page was written on October 16, 2026.
The 10-second version
- The trustee moved the deadline by one year. The official Mt. Gox site shows a notice dated October 16, 2026. It says the repayment deadline moves "from October 31, 2026 (Japan Time) to October 31, 2027."
- It covers three kinds of repayment. The notice names the Base Repayment, the Early Lump-Sum Repayment, and the Intermediate Repayment.
- This is not the first delay. News reports show the date has been pushed back several times already.

A short history of the delays
Decrypt reported on October 27, 2025 that the deadline had been pushed back to October 31, 2026. The trustee, Nobuaki Kobayashi, said many creditors "have not completed the necessary procedures," and that others ran into problems during the process. The same article says a September 2023 move shifted the deadline from October 2023 to October 2024, citing delays in checking creditor information and working with exchanges. It also says the date was pushed back "several times" since the 2014 collapse (Decrypt, October 27, 2025).
How much is still waiting?
Decrypt's October 2025 article said about 34,689 BTC remained, citing Arkham data. That is a third-party estimate from a year ago. We did not find a current figure from the trustee, so we are not giving one.
What we do not know
- Why this time. We read the notice summary on the official site. We did not find a reason for the 2027 move in it, so we are not guessing one.
- Which currencies. The summary does not say which currencies are affected (bitcoin, bitcoin cash, or yen). Check the full notice if that matters to you.
- What it does to the price. Nobody knows. We do not predict prices.
If you are a creditor
Go to the trustee's own site and read the notice itself. Be careful with emails or ads that offer to "speed up" a Mt. Gox payout. Official information comes from the trustee's site, not from a stranger.
